8 year old boy dies in a horrifying gun accident

A 8 year old boy is dead after losing control of the Uzi submachine gun he was shooting while at a gun show. The boy was being supervised by a licensed gun instructor and the boys father was only a few feet away. While holding the trigger the boy lost control of the gun and it pulled up and back firing into his head.

This story breaks my heart and angers me at the same time. How can anyone let an 8 year old boy shoot a gun especially a gun like an Uzi which is not used in hunting and sole purpose is too kill people.

It is something that American people need...

to think about. In NZ only police, the military on active service, security guards, or members of gun clubs have access to handguns!

yes, but the US

still likes its Wild West image I think. Criminals can have a field day.

That is one reason why Americans like owning guns, Elly.

The criminals DO have guns. No matter what laws you enact to fix it so that only law enforcement persons can carry guns, criminals will still have guns. Gun ownership here is not quite as widespread as people in other countries seem to think. I go about my business without worrying that someone is going to pull out a gun and shoot me, and only a few people I know actually bother to own one.

I grew up in a family that kept a number of guns in the house, but we were taught to leave them alone until our parents thought we were old enough to learn to use them properly. Ammunition was kept locked away to prevent accidents. To carry a concealed weapon in our state, you have to pass a gun safety class and pay a yearly license fee to keep your permit.

I am not against gun ownership, but I am definitely against the improper use of guns, and against young kids having access to them. (Actually, the way some of the kids in my neighborhood drive, I would favor much stricter laws placed on teens receiving drivers' licenses, too.)

Guns---they just bring more trouble

The two adults concerned deserve...

a swift kick up the backside for starters and then should be prosecuted for their individual parts in the boy's death. The US attitude towards weapons is shocking!!!

I live In Michigan which a couple years ago lowered the firearm deer season age limit down from 14 too 12 years of age...

I don't agree with it but many people up here don't see anything wrong with a 12 year old out in the forest with a deadly weapon....

Elly's picture

They'll see the nonsense in it

if one of their loved ones dies - be it the young shooter, or someone is killed due to the inexperience of this young shooter.

I can only guess that this happened in the US

in any case it should not have happened. How can anyone let an 8 year old boy "play" with a loaded gun???

Stupidity and tragedy are not limited to the US,

nor is prejudice.

This case makes you want to punish the father, though I doubt there is any way to make him feel worse than he already does.

Too true but the availability of such weapons...

only the military or police could handle such weapons in NZ. Hunting weapons are a different story. It just couldn't happen in NZ with such weapons.

Huttriver you would be

Huttriver you would be surprised by the amount of legally available firearms in the United States...AK 47's, Uzis, 50 caliber sniper rifles, etc right on down the line...There are a lot of gun lovers in the United States....I myself am not a gun lover....

Horrific accident

This story doesn't end. That boy had a mother, probably married to this father...at least for a while. Heartbreak and blame. What woe for this family. The instructor will probably lose liscence, gun show be sued. Lawyers and lobbyists will all be out in force over this one.

Meanwhile, the loss of a innocence, and the loss of life both occurred.

Very true Jellen...I think

Very true Jellen...I think sometimes people forget about the surviving family members after a tragic accident such as this....
