A little Chinese?

The students here like to ask me if I can speak Chinese. I tell them I know just a few words - the Chinese for hello, thank you and "I do not understand", and they all laugh!

I have attended Chinese lessons since I have been here at the college, and have attended most lessons in the four months. Two lessons a week. I fail to practice much though, although when out I have my book and will try my efforts on some unsuspecting Chinese person.

It is a fairly difficult word, but language learning is becoming easier, with the Internet, and if you click on the link you will learn more about how we learn.

I have Chinese students whose English is very good - and they have learned from listening and learning from the Internet, and radio and television stations from English countries, - BBC, ABC, etc. And of course American films. A lot of students have slight American accents.

Anyway click here for more information.

It will probably help if you...

can speak a little. The French are allegedly very helpful if foreigners can speak a bit of French. You'll also have some idea about their attitude towards you too.
