"A parable on how we got into this economic mess in the first place".
As the stockbroker, dressed in his pinstriped suit, stepped out of his BMW in Queen Street, Auckland, (it could well have been Sydney, London or New York) another car slammed into his door, shearing it right off!
When the police arrived the stockbroker was apopleptic."Did you see what that idiot did to my car, my beautiful BMW," he screamed."Have you any idea how much this car cost?"
"Sir!", the officer said, "You're so concerned about your car you haven't noticed your arm has been ripped off too!"
The stokebroker took one look at where his arm used to be, and screamed,"Where's my Rolex?
Some would suggest this is the capitalist value system in action?

I see no connection between greed and capitalism...
...even though it has become fashionable these days to say that lot of government will help us.

The greed is from those who want to suck more...
from the consumers, like the banks. Why do you think the economic system is up the spout? It is all to do with capitalism and nothing to do with socialism. What I suspect Obama may do is more to do with social democratic type policies than any pure socialism. The Government is there to look after the economy and the citizens of the country. The government is really just a glorified committee to run the country.
You have really run into the right guy to debate socialism and capitalism with. Our system is capitalist, but it was the policies of Reagan in the US, Thatcher in Britain and Roger Douglas in NZ who espoused the market economics theory in the 1980's and stuffed up the economy and society in the process - the so-called trickle down theory was defective and didn't work to the benefit of our particular societies and we are paying for it now in the 21st century.

I don't necessarily equate capitalism with greed.
Many great capitalists have unselfishly shared their wealth with the poor and made contributions to the world. What word would be the opposite of capitalism--communism maybe? If I had my druthers, I'd take capitalism any day.
No, but how many...
bankers could claim to be clean of greed, you need to be an advocate of greed to run a bank!

Greed is at the heart...
of the economic meltdown. Many capitalists are greedy!

capitalism is not a synonym for greed, Hutt
greed is far more pervasive than just to be found in capitalists!
