A Search For The History Of Witchcraft

Magic is said to be the world’s second oldest profession; I think we all know which one ranks first. However, “magicians” are not really the kind of magic I want to address today. Honestly, pulling rabbits out of hats and sawing some blonde in half have never been of the slightest interest to me. What I’m more interested in is the history of witchcraft.

This post has been inspired by the recent release of the title of the final Harry Potter book. I’m in the mood for witches, wizards, spells and brooms. It’s all so, well, magical! Witchcraft has been around for a long time, as in over twenty thousand years before Christianity! Yet it is still the most widely misunderstood religious practice around.

In my quest for valid information about the history of witchcraft, I’ve run into an insane amount of junk. In fact, it’s turned out to be a very difficult task to find anything worthwhile! The sad thing is that any wannabe with a “Charmed” fetish can set up a web page and “explain” the origins of Wicca to us- however wrong they are. I’m also looking for interesting information, not just your everyday stuff.

I’ll continue my quest in books and continue on this topic soon.
