Animals Have Feelings Too

If you have ever owned a pet it doesn't take long to understand that pet has a personality all of its own. As the pet inhabits our life, we grow to understand what they want to tell us. My Bichon Frisse always stared at me when he wanted to go out. If I in turn asked hm if he wanted to go "outside" he would grunt, halfway nod and run to the front door, tail wagging behind him. We humans learn pretty fast. Teddy didn't have to talk, he just stared. My family learned what that stare meant.

My mother had a Poodle who knew the word "go". She and my Dad eventually had to spell the word or otherwise disguise their intent to leave the house or Gigi would jump up and down and run to the garage door in hopes of going for a ride.

I am very sensitive to my pets. It isn't difficult to tell when the cat is happy or upset about something. She, too, has learned the words, "Do you want to go outside?" And she will run to the front door and wait patiently until I get there. She also knows my work schedule and gets "clingy" just like a small child on the days I go to work. Last weekend when my baby granddaughter was visiting, the cat became aggitated because her place which is my lap was being occupied by this little human intruder.

Animals are living creatures who possess a soul. They feel pain and discomfort just as we do, they feel happiness and joy, just as we do and when God charged man with dominance over all other animals, it was about caring for them, taking care of them and not about manhandling them. Dominance is a privilege, not a right.

great post author, lol. My

great post author, lol. My MIL (mother in law) tells me of a dog that she once had.
The dog learned the word squirrel and barked like mad when ever it was spoken. So they started spelling the word.

(*in case you are wondering we have tons of squirrels around here)

but eventually they could only get to S-Q before the dog figured it out! A dog that can spell, amazing :).

I believe it.

Many animals are so attentive to what humans say and do. I think your MIL had a very smart dog.

must have and it looks like

must have and it looks like Tottie has the same issue as my MIL, although I've never met a dog who loves bananas!

…Um…

I agree with most of what you said. Do you have a Scripture to prove animals having souls?

I do believe that animal abuse is wrong, but that doesn't mean that I haven't trained my cats to stay off my desk. They respond even to a softly-spoken "no." And though I've probably punished Sparky the harshest (I've had gerbils & mice), she trusts me the most. She actually lets my brother touch her if I'm with her, and she refuses to hiss at me when my parents try to coax her into it.

Actually, there is

scripture. I saw it years ago and I think it is in Genesis, but I cannot remember where. When I have a little time, I will search for it.

Training isn't equated with abuse

in my book. I think training is very necessary for all of us to co-exist. It is amazing how quickly they learn and respond to a little training. You made a good point, "They respond even to a softly-spoken "no."

We have to spell in front of our dog

and now he knows what we are spelling! We used to be able to say "B" meaning banana, as he LOVES them. Now we have to do hand signals!

A dog that loves bananas?

That is quite a dog. And I thought my dog was cute when he would steal a few bites of vegetable soup.

Banana, grapes, mandarines, - in fact

he loves all fruit. Strange but true. He loves his meat/dog food too.

I have never heard of a dog that likes bananas much less

a fruit salad. It sounds like a really cute dog. What's the breed?

I have never

seen a LONG-haired dachshund. Here in the States, there are plenty of short-hair dachshunds although, the name sounds German and it only makes sense they origionally had long hair. Sounds like a really cute dog.

Elly's picture

I'm sure there are plenty in the States

but most people don't recognise them as "sausage dogs". I'm sure if you went to a dog show you'd find them. They have a great temperament.

My cat

Well, my mom's cat Sparky LOVES potato chips.

Especially Pringles.

Sparky

would make a great character for an ad for Pringles! In fact llok at how often Pringles has been mentioned here and over time...how many people will read about Sparky and the Pringles potato chip craze.
