Time for Privacy not Publicity
First off, let me say, I deeply appreciate the strength of character of Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former democratic presidential candidate John Edwards. Although some in the media would like to put her down for keeping her private life private, I stand behind her desire to protect her children and her family from scandal. I applaud her ability to forgive and her attempt to work on reconciliation in her marriage.
1776 by David McCullough
Reading 1776, Pulitzer Prize winning author David McCullough, made me realize just how close we Americans came to continuing as a British colony for a long time.
McCullough did a masterful job in compiling and presenting the records and papers of important men and bodies on both the British and American sides of the matter of independence. The descriptions of both the noble traits and the frailties of the key player in the pivotal year were very enlightening. I had always held George Washington to be a man of almost superhuman strengths. To read of his indecisions and misjudgments, as well as the intrigue on the part of some of his staff, made the story of our independence even more a thing to be cherished as a gift!
Hitting the Gap
This year we hit the gap a few months earlier than last year. For those of you who don't know what the gap is all about, it has to do with drug benefit Part D for those on Medicare. The gap is when the cost of drugs paid out by the insurance company exceeds a certain limit, usually $2,500. The gap spreads out until reaching about $4,500. The subscriber pays for meds at 100% during the gap, and the insurance company picks it up again in full at the outer limit of the gap.
