Pacific Northwest - Lichen

Moss grows on anything that doesn't move in the Pacific Northwest. Check out this tree lichen that I took a shot of hanging from a branch near where I live. It's typically found in moist climates such as ours, ones that can see up to 200 inches of rain per year.

Learning the Hard Way!

This article was first published in December, 1982. As I am now once again raising children, it really touched home as I reread it this morning.

Last week I was visiting a hospital and I heard a doctor giving a nurse serious instructions about a patient. Apparently the doctor had given the same instructions the day before, but the nurse had failed to carry out the procedure because of her feeling of compassion for the young patient.

Many people do very little to prepare for marriage immediately they seal the proposal deal with, “yes, I will marry you”. As soon as that is achieved, they immediately start preparing for the wedding ceremony with very little preparation, if any, for the marriage. Marriage is not just a continuation of friendship but rather marriage has specific roles and challenges.

Fence Holes and Good Neighbors

They say fences make good neighbors. But what if the fence has a hole in it? Between my backyard and the neighbor's, we share this fence, this unstained fence with a knot hole for peeking through. Nothing much happens worth viewing on either side, but the hole makes an interesting picture. Oh, the green mold is just an accepted part of living near the Pacific Coast.
