Are Hurricanes becoming more common then before?

I remember hurricane Andrew back in 92’ it was a powerful category 5 hurricane that hit south Florida. At the time it was the first named storm or the Atlantic hurricane season. I traveled down there 9 months after the hurricane hit and debris was still stacked in piles all over the place.
It was truly something horrible for the people who lived threw it.

However it seems like during the last 10 or so years were seeing more and more powerful hurricanes. Everyone remembers Katrina and now there is hurricane Ike cruising though the Caribbean heading into the Gulf of Mexico.

Is it just me or are we seeing more hurricanes then before?

If anyone reading lives in Australia or New Zealand I would like too know if your seeing an increase in Cyclones down there. I sure hope not.

Anyway thanks for reading

They do seem more powerful...

and more common. End of world scenario would explain it too!

I was watching an analysis of the hurricane patterns, Toad

That presentation indicates that there are cycles in the prevalence of hurricanes that are ties to the the El Nino system.

I am sitting here near Houston watching Ike very closely, as I am supposed to travel this weekend and he may change my plans.

Live Well, Learn Much, Laugh Often

I do not live

anywhere near a hurricane, so I have never been through these kinds of storms. Evacuation is obviously better than destruction, but the evacuation must be very hard. It would help one to not be bound to their posessions.

I have also heard talk that when there is one hurricane after another, people start to get a little numb to the whole thing and may even decide not to evacuate. I can see me doing that, as well.

Tell God to tell Ike to leave you alone!

It does seem like

there has been an increase, but then again, maybe the media is highlighting them more. What is fact and what is our perception?

Many have tried to connect the increase of hurricanes with global warming. Their is actually no evidence of that.

The year of Katrina we had quite a number of hurricanes. However, the very next year resulted in no significant hurricanes hitting the U.S.

May not be just you...

For anyone who's a student of end-times Biblical prophecy, weather catastrophies are to be seen in greater succession prior to the return of Christ.
