It pays to follow instructions

Because I was away working for more than 2 weeks I needed to attend to some laundry,and was faced with using a front loader machine. As I have a top loading machine and no experience with the front loader, I read the instruction manual, prior to use. I had powder for top loader, and in my wisdom, thought that if I only used a little of it, I would not be creating too many suds, and would satisfactorily complete the washing before retiring to bed following my all night shift.

How Lucky We Are

I have recently visited with my friend who is now an Australian citizen, but was originally from Zimbabwe. She has just spent 3 months visiting her relatives in South Africa, unable to actually go to Zimbabwe, because of the terrible inflation,lack of food, and petrol.She was sharing with me some of the hardships her friends and relatives are enduring, and it makes me feel so humble, with all this Xmas fare around me.

Someone Has To Do It

Here I am, working night duty over Xmas. I am looking after inpatients, and any community members who present through the Emergency Department. So far only one such presentation. I have one other registered nurse on duty with me. I am in a small country hospital approximately 150kms from the capital city of Western Australia, Perth.

Seniors Picnic

Today the Dongara Denison Lion's Club hosted our annual Seniors Picnic at the foreshore. Seniors arrive from surrounding towns by bus, arranged by the Lion's Clubs in their towns. We have around 200 Seniors attend, and for many it is an annual catch-up with old friends.

How it all began

There is a huge shortage of Nurses in Western Australia. The number quoted in The Western Magazine is 1070. This means that nurses are working extra shifts, double shifts, and often unable to have leave approved at times when we need it. It also means that a lot of hospitals have vacancies. I love my work, and to avoid becoming over worked, I decided that a change was necessary.

Freedom

I am enjoying the freedom my new working life has taken. I am no longer obliged to work set days a week endlessly, or having to apply for and sometimes be denied time off for special occasions. The Agency I work for offer me contracts to fit in with times that I am available to work, and we go from there.

Working in Country Western Australia

I have been so involved with my contracts through Midwest Western Australia, I have been neglecting to share my travels. Most of my contracts take me about 4 to 6 hours travelling from my home. I have been doing night shifts in small country hospitals, and meeting new and interesting people.

New Adventures

I am in the middle of a three week holiday, trying to imagine what it would be like if I never had to go to work again.

I love not having to use the alarm clock to start the day, and I love being able to start and finish a good book, and remember what the opening chapters were about before I complete the book.
