Causes of Flatulence

We all experience flatulence. If you say that you don’t then you’re either lying or something is really wrong with you. Flatulence occurs when there is an excessive amount of stomach or intestinal gas. We all know the feeling. Stomach cramps and bloating can be very uncomfortable and the burping and farting can be extremely embarrassing. It’s definitely not something we like to share with the world.

Flatulence for the most part is a normal occurrence but there are many other causes and excessive flatulence should be taken seriously. Causes include swallowing air on a regular basis, eating too quickly, bowel fermentation, dyspepsia, irritable Bowel syndrome, gall bladder disease, colon cancer, diverticulosis, peptic ulcer, stomach infection, gallstones, food allergies, high fiber diet, partial bowel obstructions, pancreatic disease, short bowel syndrome, hypersalivation, Carbohydrate Malabsorption and carcinoma of the colon. Certain foods such as nuts, beans, raisins, onions, cabbage, brussel sprouts, prunes and apples can also cause flatulence.

What causes your flatulence? Flatulence is embarrassing but unfortunately it’s just another one of those facts of life. Just make sure that you’re out of hearing and smelling range from everyone else so that you don’t share your flatulence. After all, there are some things in life that you shouldn’t share.
