Cherry Pie

We have two huge cherry trees in our garden just outside the window from where my computer is. They are still in blossom and the leaves are just beginning to show. The promise of the sweet and lovely cherries yet to come.

I don't think, judging by the amount of blossom this year, that there will be such a bumper crop as last year. There were so many I couldn't use them all. This area is renowned for fruit and there was an abundance of fruit everywhere around. In the local markets some stallholders were amost giving fruit away last year. I made lots of jam and also froze some cherries.

Yesterday I got some of the frozen cherries out of the freezer and made a cherry pie. It was lovely to have a taste of Summer and there is just one slice left now.

Blackberry Pie

I once visited a family in the northwest and they said how popular blackberries are in that area. They go out picking them every year. Of course they treated us to some of that delicious pie.

Creeping across the backyard fence

from my neighbor's yard is a mess of blackberry vines. We see them as invasive weeds here, but I plan to visit the back side of that fence this summer and carry my bucket along.

Yes, they are an invasive bush

here too. I'm sure folk grow them commercially but I don't know where. I think I'd take my bucket too.

Blackberry pie or crumble now what could be yummier?

Nothing except two little girls in a recreation field many years ago carrying little oval baskets made for them by an old blind gentleman. It was late, late Summer almost Autumn the girls heard Mummy calling and came out of the field to the road. Mummy had come to cross them back over the road home. Both little baskets were full of blackberries. One little girl was as neat as a new pin. The other little girl had blackberry juice all round her mouth and down the front of her dress, her hair ribbons were awry, socks at half-mast and grubby.

What happened to those two little girls from that field far away and long ago?

Cherry pie and milk

Is it a myth that to eat them together will give you a stomach ache?

Cherry pie is one of my favorites, but as a diabetic, I must be careful about having it around. But the marrionberry or blackberry pie - that's my most favorite. We have lots of wild blackberries in my neck of the woods.

I've never heard of marrionberry

we do have blackberries - more down south. I can remember picking them in the wild when I was younger. I know they spoil easily and we don't see them in the shops.

Marrionberries are like

huge blackberries combined with raspberries. They are big and plump and deep dark reddish purple. Oh, so tasty.

I adore blackberries Jellen, especially in pie, I love the

sharpness of them.

We ate our cherry pie with cream and I didn't get stomach ache.

I don't think I've ever had Cherry

Pie. Our cherry crops in Aus are in the shops around Christmas. I love them fresh. Now I must think about creating a cherry pie.
