The battle to remain faithful to God is difficult. Satan wants to utterly destroy each one of us, and his schemes are extremely crafty. The only way to gain strength and competency for the fight is in personal devotional time each day. A disciple is a learning follower, thus Bible study is imperative.
Scripture reading should be incorporated into our daily routine to allow God's word to equip us for all good works. Fervent prayer is also needed in our daily quiet time. There's nothing we cannot accomplish through diligent, faithful prayer.
Personal devotional time in the form of Bible study and prayer will strengthen our relationship with God and allow us to be victorious in our struggles with Prince of Darkness.
2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved of the God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

I have been told...
that the teachings of the bible are more important than a particular church's policies.

That really works...
...as long as one is dutiful and keeps to the schedule. It's easy to get derailed by unforeseen events that suddenly need to be dealt with. They cause the schedule to slip and I find I have to work hard to get back on it.

Isn't it amazing how easy it is, JS
to be distracted from the blessings we get from devotional focus? And how hard it is to get back on track?

Nice Post
It is always goot to have a reminder that we were created to have communion with God.
It intrigues me, Jane
why we so often need to be reminded of that fact.

Thank you, FF&F
I've been slipping a bit in that department and needed this reminder.
Thank you for being a voice online.

Jellen, when I first started blogging
(back on the old WU site) I wondered if there was going to be any acceptance of conservative voice of faith in the comnmunity. I have been pleasantly surprised at how often people make comments like yours here. Thanks

Good reminder, FF&F
A lady just called me wanting to know if I knew where the verse was about men's hearts failing them for fear when they see what is coming upon the earth. We found it, but when we looked in a different translation, it said men would faint from fear. I guess I'd rather faint than have my heart fail. Do you have any recommendations for a translation that is the closest to the original text?
I will have to get to the office where my reference books are
so I can find the Greek text. I will get back to you soon, maybe tomorrow, with that info.

Jeanne, I am sorry I took so long to get back to this,
it slipped my mind. The Greek word you asked about is apopsuko, and is used only once in the Bible. It's common meaning is "to breathe out life, or faint." Three translation that I found used "hearts fail" rather than faint, but in context it seems to me that the figure of speech carries the same meaning. Hope that helps.
Again, sorry I was so long in responding.
