Democracy Comes From Within, The War in Iraq

I was a soldier during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, (The Persian Gulf War.) During that period, one country, to whom we supplied arms, invaded another. In this operation, the goal was to end the invasion. It was never to kill Sadam. When he surrendered, he was really just agreeing to cease his invasion and lay down arms. When he did this, the war was over. It was truly "mission accomplished."

This type of action from the United States was warranted and we are trained for just those types of missions. The War in Iraq is completely different. We are trying to impose Democracy on them. Our Fore-fathers would have agreed we should attempt to spread and defend Democracy whenever we can, but they would not have agreed to trying to impose it at gunpoint. The reason this operation is not working is seven fold.

1. War was declared based on the threat of WMDs:
a. If Sadam had WMDs, he would have used them on us during the Persian Gulf War.
b. If Sadam had WMDs, then we sold them to him.

2. The US Military is not trained to be a peace keeping force or a police force, we are trained to fight in real war, where you kill everyone. We are not in the business of building new democracies. (We have an extremely low success rate, Korea, Vietnam, Africa, Cuba, etc.)

3. Half of America does not support the War. (Imagine if President Bush had to do like other Presidents-past during WWI and WWII, and ask the nation to turn in all their copper and aluminum or rubber. Do you think that we would give it up in as great of numbers as in the past?)

4. They killed Sadam before the conflict was over, this action strengthened the enemy's resolve. (If Bush was captured instead, and Sadam killed him, how would you feel? I dislike President Bush, he is disrespectful, especially for such a stupid man, BUT if they killed my President, I would be on the next flight out to IRAQ, with an unprecedented malice.)

5. The Iraqi people have archaic beliefs that go back thousands of years, which propagate hate and in turn their violence. Violence is a big part of their culture. We would have to go into their homes and start there as that is where it is bred, each Iraqi home is a micro Iraq. We come at them preaching the wonders of Democracy and they know our culture, Sex, Money, Prostitution, Homosexuality, Pornography, Alcohol, Child Molestation, Gambling, Culmination of power to few, Abuse of Power, a nation of selfish individuals without a unifying factor, a godless people to them, whose leader is arrogant, makes no attempt to understand them, dictates and deals death.

6. When it is over, whatever progress may have been achieved will be destroyed within a year, and all those soldiers who fought and those who died, or killed will have done so for nothing.

7. Democracy comes from within.
