Difference between Democratic Win and Republican Win

After reading a post by clemar that asks Senator Obama a question, I gave it some thought, and decided to write a post summarizing what I believe to be the difference between a democratic win and a republican win.

In a nutshell, when dems are in office, taxes usually go up to pay for all the government sponsored and government monitored social programs provided, at the expense of those who pay higher taxes -- usually higher income earners and business. Unfortunately, a business that gets pinched by higher taxes, hires fewer employees, and spends less in the marketplace, affecting jobs.

When reps are in office, fewer social programs are provided creating some real poverty conditions with some rich just getting richer, but businesses usually prosper and can afford to hire more workers -- but without the government's big brother intervention. Sometimes this means greed for those who exploit. Hence, the situation we currently have.

It comes down to whether you want to be provided for with government money and government monitoring at taxpayer expense or whether you want to be able to provide for yourself and succeed in your own business without being heavily taxed -- to pay for those who aren't able to or don't want to work as hard.

I believe both dems and reps may not be seeing the entire picture right now, otherwise we wouldn't have the national debt we have or all the plans for more debt in the future.

Voting this time around, because the economy is important, many voters are focusing on a quick fix. But I believe the focus needs to be more than jobs and home mortgage rescues. Focus needs to be on our economic future, health of social security, and national security -- to be able to have a future.

If all we focus on is fixing our current ills, we might just find ourselves too inwardly focused that we fail to defend ourselves against a totally different threat to our security -- that threat being to our national security.

I think the near future in all our countries ...

will be dictated more by the economic problems we have had and will have in the future. Many people will be concerned with their home mortgages and interest rates.

True, Jeanne

But that too is a generalization, just look at the differences between Palin and McCain on that issue.

As my mother would have said, Jellen,

it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. One other difference I do see between the two candidates is that one is against abortion. I could never, under any circumstances, vote for a president who favored abortion, because the chance of RoeVsWade being overturned under such a president would be nil.

I too am a social issues voter, Jeanne

I believe that if Obama wins next week, we will see a repeal of the ban on partial birth abortions within days of his inauguration. And the appointments of federal judges will assure policies that will have very negative impacts on my grandchildren and perhaps their children.

I think you're right on that, FF&F

I too am a social issues voter.

But I'm not ruling out the effect of fervent prayer on this election and on the future of any judicial appointments.

At least that way, your knees may be in bad shape, but you won't starve to death.
