Does Your Dog Refuse To Appear In Public Without His Sweater?

Today my husband and I were enjoying lunch at a small sandwich shop when two young girls walked by the window. The tiny leashed dachshund that accompanied them was wearing a natty looking sweater.

It would have really been cute, except that it was about 90 degrees outside, and I couldn't help feeling sorry for the poor animal, not that he seemed to mind.

I wasn't the only one. The table of teenagers next to us had also spotted the dog and began commenting on reasons for the sweater which seemed totally unsuited for such a warm day.

"He is probably recovering from a bad case of pneumnia," one said.

"No, I think he is on his way to a dog show," another offered.

"I'll bet his grandma knitted it for him and he's afraid she'll find out he isn't wearing it," one of the older girls said.

"I always wear a jacket or a sweater around school. It makes you feel protected," the boy across from her commented. "I think that is just a shy dog."

"What do you think, Jake?" The question was directed to the last boy at the table. "I think he has the mange," was his reply.

The dog had disappeared by then, so there was no way to find out for sure why he was attired so warmly. Who knows. Maybe he just liked to show off.

Anyway, it gave us a good chuckle for the day.

I don't know if it' true or

I don't know if it' true or not...But I've heard dogs sweat though their nose and paws...So if that is true the dog would be fine "as long as his feet and nose were uncovered.

Pretty weird if you ask me...

though some people treat their pets like children.

You are right, Ms CYPRAH

but I will say, the dog seemed to be enjoying himself.

The desire to control

Why would someone dress a dog in any kind of clothes at all? Clothes are for humans. Animals can take care of themselves on their own, because they are built to do that. People like to makeover their children and their pets in their own image, yet goodness knows how uncomfortable that dog must have felt!

The desire to control everything in the ways we wish is really sad.
