Exclamations of Frustration

What is your favourite exclamation (not swear words or offensive words) for those exasperating times when you hit your thumb with a hammer, drop things, forget things, miss the bus or do as I did yesterday and put your fingertip into hot cooking oil?

At the moment mine is "pants!", which I picked up from my nephew. "Knicker elastic!" is another that I've used in the past. I had a friend who used "knickerbocker glory!"

What about "candy floss!" , "nefarious gnomes!" or even "Cleopatra!"? invested with a suitable emphasis could well satisfy the need of the moment. Can you suggest any ordinary words which would give vent to that frustration and anger, usually with ourselves which we all feel at those times when we've done something very silly.

Well we have a beautiful and expressive language there should be

words enough for all occasions without resorting to that.

Hatsrus,

I think "jumpin' blogger" would be very appropriate for most such situations.

Good one Jeanne, especially suitable for errors when blogging

and eminently apt for when you've read your blog thoroughly (you think) and submitted it and two hours later realise that some gremlin at blogevolve has put errors in it.

I say jezzzz alot in frustration

In the upper mid west people say Yaaa and Jezzz.
an example would be
"15 dollars of a pizza....Jezzzz" then the person selling the pizza would say "Yaaaa it's expensive"

I thought of another one! How about "gelatinous goo"! I will

keep thinking of them all night now.

"Blistering Barnacles!" was the one I was trying to remember, it

was used by a sea captain character in a newspaper cartoon strip for children in one of the UK newspapers.

I think a four letter word

or one syllable works well! A longer word might sound better but a short word works.

Four letter words work well but I think longer words give one

the space and time to simmer down and also make everone else laugh which diffuses the situation and can also make you laugh too.

Hope you don't think less of me

but my word is often "crap." Sometimes, I say: "great" in the tone that expresses how it is not great.

Think less of you?

I have used the word but very rarely. My prim and proper mother used to use the word. Her conversation was peppered with the word. I asked her if she knew what it meant. When I enlightened her she was mortified, and never uses it now.

No peppering from me

but once in a while, it seems to be the word. Trust me. It's a milder version of what I heard from certain family members, while growing up.

I have been known to use " Wonderful" in the same tone as

you use "Great" Jellen. I wouldn't think any the less of you for using the word "crap".

Something expressive that won't offend but is satisfying is

necessary for those times when you need to give vent to feelings or burst in the attempt.

We have small children around a lot

so even the blokes here have to be on their best behaviour.

Yes when little ones are about everyone has to be careful

how they express themselves.

Bum is a good one Elly, and very satisfying at that moment

when you are so exasperated.

I like your style Hats

and you can create anything that sounds better than the F word. Well done. I think I use "bum" a lot.
