Global Warming or Global Drought?

I've noticed on the posts here that it is not Australia that is suffering a drought - the UK, parts of USA, Africa, India, and maybe other places, but the emphasis by scientists and governments is on "Global Warming" - and I think the average person doesn't understand ALL the ramefications of this phenomenon.

I wonder if we would get more action from our governments and the people if we called it Global Drought? Surely it would put greater emphasis on one of the major consequences of Global Warming, and I think it would put an element of fear into people that will "encourage" them to make a greater effort to make a difference.

Perhaps also using terminology like "Global Pollution" - it seems to say that the whole world has a problem with this - and that all the people of the world can do something to learn how to make changes to reduce the global pollution which just may reduce the problem with the ozone layer.

Different terminology might result in more people understanding what is going on.

We live to some extent with droughts here in Australia - they are a feature of our weather patterns over time, but the continual drought with no end in sight is of great concern. We are struggling to provide water for our daily needs right now, and with all the rhetoric from governments some folk might believe that that it is all under control.

We are all installing water tanks in our homes. But what if it doesn't rain? Our government is building more dams - but it doesn't rain to fill them.

I don't want to scare monger, but I think we have to be jolted into more action.

What do you think?

I think it doesn't help that

scientists (each with their own agendas and affiliations) don't seem to agree on the causes and possible remedies and that honest, open debate on the matter seems to be impossible.

Isn't that always the way?

It doesn't seem to matter what topic you will find those of differing views. From my point of view I'm aware that there are climate issues around the world. I'm no scientist but just experiencing our own weather dramas - I sense that something is very wrong.

water table

Sounds like you live in a rural area. I was wondering how deep the water table is in your area. I've always wanted to my own well. Is this something feasible?

Wells are not permitted

Our water table is in trouble. One has to go down much further now than in the past. Actually where I live is a good underground water supply - but the cost of getting to it - if it was legal - would be too high. I live just 15 mks from the city - but in an area that still has undeveloped acreages, and being just 3 mkms from the sea, salty water abounds.

Until the last drop of water

drips from the water spout, people won't demand action. I like your idea of renaming the crisis so that it makes it sound as desperate as it is.

Thank you, imaauthor

for your support on this. Even the comments here make me wonder if people understand how serious it is. No water = no life.

Global warming sounds like a good thing, indeed there are those

in the US who advocate letting it happen so the ice cap melts and new sea lanes open. I don't know what they think will happen to their own low-lying coastal land down in Louisiana and the like when sea levels rise. Will the casualties and refugees be sacrificed to the mighty dollar?

I live in the Far North and

I live in the Far North and some of the people up here think Global Warming is good because it means mild winters...I think if it was called Global Pollution people would listen to the dangers.

That was what I was thinking Toad

as I was not aware that drought conditions were so widespread. And of course, as you say, some people would see some positives in it.
