High above the city

View of Shanghai from the 54th Floor

We did eat well during our two days in Shanghai - but the best place was the Hyatt - where we where whisked by a very fast elevator all the way to the 54th Floor - for the wonderful buffet lunch.

Not only was the food spectacular - but the views over the river to the city of Shanghai and beyond. Sure, some smog (pollution) which was only obvious from way up high.

Next time I visit, it will not be a public holiday I hope! But a great couple of days.

The Tower in the centre of the photo is The Pearl Tower.

An interesting question you ask, djbtol

It is hard not to feel that China has plenty of money - its new roads, its buildings, its infrastructure - amazing. But there is still much for them to learn - about pollution, workplace health and safety, rubbish removal, and care for the underpriveledged.

In the case of China -

it seems that it was easier to develop business and bring in lots of money than it is to change other cultural things, especially cultural issues not related to money. In time they will change, but I think that will be based on their own internal drivers, not on what other nations have done.

Very interesting -

one doesn't get to go to Shangai every day. The Pearl Tower is quite interesting also - the combination of high tech communication and historical cultural design.

How do these poor developing nations ever survive?
