How much cardiovascular training do you really need?

Personally I do 20 min. 3 times a week on the Stairmaster or recumbent bike at my home gym. I know a lot of bodybuilders who don’t do cardio because they say it cuts into your muscle gains.

It is only partially true that cardio inhibits muscle growth. Yes excessive amount of cardio should be avoid by a bodybuilder. If you need to lose body fat concentrate on cutting fat from your diet instead of adding more cardio to your workout program.

That said it is also important to maintain optimal cardiovascular health because it will allow you to utilize oxygen more efficiently. Strong heart and lungs are necessary to help you push though your grueling weight training program.
