I am Shocked That Racism Actually Exists In Australia!

Man if this doesn't beat all. I did a post last August and now this irate Aussie left a spew of comments on my post Is It Really Ok To Call Someone A Wog In Australia? Now this guy is really getting hot under the collar and has even gone to the extent that I should leave the country and leave the Australian to live in their own country. I reckon this guy is in the minority but he seems to think otherwise.

I reckon I was pretty nice in the exchange but he was getting more obnoxious with each comment. In the long run I banned his IP address so that the meaningless conversation would not go on.

I reckon this guy is in the minority but he seems to think otherwise so if there are any Aussies who read this who wouldn't mind leaving a civil comment on that post it would be greatly appreciated.

often Asians, who call white New Zealanders "Kiwis", others are by their ethnicity ie Maori, Islander etc

It seems the situation is the same in Oz. Aussies, Wogs etc

If you immigrate to a country, then you follow the traditions and social rules of the country you are in. How can someone expect a country to change everything for them? If the Muslims don't want to swim with men and women in the same pool, then they can build their own. Why should everyone else have to change just to suit their beliefs?

Our language structure in America is changing. Our doctors and health providers are being forced to learn Spanish...I would like ot learn Spanish, but not be forced into it because the people who immigrate here don't learn the language of the land.

I wouldn't think of going to a Middle Eastern country and try to change their way of life. It is I who should adapt or I should leave and go to a country whose life style I can adapt to.

That is true, and the majority of immigrants here have assimilated beautifully, but this joker doesn't care. To him they are not pure breed and should be kicked out. Sounds a bit like Nazism to me.

getting rid of much of the ingrained racism of the old White Australia policy relating to aboriginals, but it still exists in pockets,including Queensland. I wrote a couple of stories IN WU, but never repeated them in BF.

What Elly said was true - Muslims are creating a new form of racism that must be difficult to accept. We have only 40,000 Muslims in NZ at present, but I've seen one or two examples of what could happen in the future here. One was a demand from Muslim women for their own swimming pool - in typical Kiwi fashion the council involved offered ALL women a special night to use the pool.I also heard a story that acouple of overseas Muslims had come to NZ and made one or two HATE speeches. In retrospect, their actions will prevent their return here!

Racism is a big problem, and Americans have done much to rid their society of ingrained racism there too.

We are not innocents here either, but we dont have much of ingrained racism, and our law is pretty active against that BS.

I know racism is alive in the United States especially in the south...In fact I'm friends with a black family that actually moved up to Michigan just too get away from the open discrimination that they felt while living in Texas...

Racism is just as bad in the north as it is in the south. I've lived in both places and the only difference is that people in Michigan and other northern states hide it better. Which is worse? The people who openly discriminate so you know exactly where they stand or the ones who hide it and discriminate against you behind your back when you don't even know it's happening?

and I think it is too easy to label "racism" when in reality people just don't know how to deal with folk of different races or cultures.

Have you every been in an elevator with someone from China or Japan? Aussies in particular are likely to smile at or speak to folk in the elevator, but the eastern culture is not as open to this friendliness. So, the Japanes man or woman will look straight ahead, without smiling and certainly no eye contact. And of course the 'foreigner' may not speak or understand English. As a result the "foreigner' will be regarded with some suspicion by the 'rejected' Aussie, and negative comments might result. We find here that so many immigrants shun involvement with Aussies, so there is often little chance to learn about each others' cultures.

It all takes time Elly. I do have one gripe though and that is when they come into our schools and we have to change or our curriculum so as not to offend. I think that if they are to come into our country then they should learn to tolerate our customs and not to be offended by them. They should certainly not try to change them

that racism exists in Australia. Sadly I think it is getting worse with the increasing numbers of Muslims in the country on the receiving end of the latest rubbish. I have posted on your blog.
