International talk like a pirate day???

This is quite a bizarre story. And I will start from the beginning. Today, midafternoon, sirens started blaring in the grounds of the university. They would stop, then start again. It sounded very much like Air Raid Sirens, and so much out of place here. Everyone seemed to go about their own business as if the deafening siren was not blaring. I asked a few students and no one seemed to know. Or care. Odd, I thought.

Later I did get an explanation. Apparently on September 18th, the Japanese started bombing China. There were a number of commemoration cememonies in the big cities here.

I thought I'd look it up on Google. I keyed in something like "Chinese history September 18th" but couldn't find what I was looking for. But what I did find had me really chuckling. After all the bad news around the world at the moment and the frustrations I have had to day, I needed a laugh.

Apparently September 19th is International talk like a pirate day.

Now I am off to find out what I can say. Do some research on how I can speak like a pirate.

Elly and the Pirates...

great title for your book, Elly? I remember reading about pirates in the China Seas, I think they still exist.

Oh, and they are not all on the seas

I seem to remember that Elly's granddaughters call her

the "Adventure" grandma. I wonder if they know she is studying to talk like a pirate. None of my grandmothers ever did anything so exciting.

I love them calling me that

and they do it with so much passion. I love my adventures too.

Elly, pirates?

Now that's amusing. I'll be interested to learn how you decide to use this bit of information.
