Are you one of the many people that bought an iPhone? Or did you buy an iPod Touch? Both are excellent pieces of hardware. With a full Mac OSX operating system, 3.5-inch (diagonal) display, Wi-Fi capability, and YouTube capability, they will cost you a pretty penny, but they're worth it.

Wouldn't be great to install different applications on it though? Thanks to Steve Jobs and the architecture of his greedy mind, you can't (or so he wishes). Thanks to the Hacker and Open-Source community, now you can. The process is called Jailbreaking. Once jailbroken, you iPhone/iPod Touch will have the capability for you to install all sorts of applications. All at no cost except time.

This tutorial is how to jailbreak the iPhone/iPod Touch Firmware 1.1.1. I will have the other firmware jailbreaking processes in other threads in a bit.

First, you need to visit jailbreakme.com on your iPod Touch/iPhone. Click on "Install AppSnapp". Once installed, you will be taken to the "Slide to Unlock' screen.

Congratulations. You have successfully jailbroken your iPhone/iPod Touch. :) Easy right? Now on to the annoying part.

Now on your Home Screen, there should be a new icon named 'Installer'. This is what you will use to install applications. Open it. Now at the bottom, go to "Sources". Then click "Edit". Then "Add". Now here's the part that takes a lot of time. Go to http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/wiki/index.php?title=IPod_touch_Installer_source_list

The 'Sources' are the directories of developers where all the application files are located and available for download.
