To meet the social commitment for enhancing the status of medical study and research in the state KIIT has introduced School of Medicine (Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences) which makes it a complete Institute in the field of technical and professional education. Being a part of the reputed family of KIIT, KIMS will always strive to scale new parameters in the field of health education & research.

KIIT received the approval letter from Ministry of Health, Govt. of India to offer MBBS & BDS programme from the 2007-08 academic year. After the due recommendations by both the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Dental Council of India (DCI), the Ministry of Health approved MBBS programme (vide letter no U12012/76/2004-ME-(P.II) and BDS programme (vide letter no V.12017/43/2004-DE). The student capasity is 100 each in both the prograqmmes.

The Medical College is divided into 20 academic departments: providing the study, treatment, and prevention of human diseases, and maternity care. It is affiliated to NBA ( AICTE) and NAAC (UGC).
KIMS has made a very humble beginning with a land area of 60 acre along with a built up area of 4.61 lakhs sq. ft consists of a Medical College and a 500 bedded hospital with an expansion program of a multi specialty hospital to be opened very shortly.
