Kids and Treasure!

The front page of the Houston Chronicle today has a story and a picture of the recent discovery/recovery made by the Oddessey, with their deep sea vessels and robotics. They have retrieved over 17 tons of sunken gold and silver coins from the 1600's!

The details of what ship and where it is located were not released, as legal procedures are finalized. An archaelogist that was brought in to view a sampling of the coins said that the coins will bring from hundred to perhaps hundereds of thousands of dollars EACH, and there are hundreds of bins of coin in the photo. According to the story, the coins are in better condition than most from that time frame. The value of the treasure is sure to be astronomical!

When I showed my six year old grandson, who is really into pirates right now, his reaction was, "Wow, will they give that money to poor people?"

You know what they say about the love of money

surely some of the money will find its way to the poor. I just don't understand why the rich work so hard at the expense of the poor to get richer. When is enough....enough?

The big thing there Imaauthor

is to realize that none of it belongs to you, it is a gift you are to use wisely and share freely. Then enough is enough!

Many rich people

distribute much money to those less advantaged. I know there are some that keep it to themselves - but one thing I do know is that many of the rich do not tell how much they give away - so we may never know the truth of how much of their wealth is distributed.

I like those thoughts, Elly

The real question each of us should ask is "What am i doing with my blessings to bless others?" I don't have to answer for the rich folks with no faces. But I need my six year old grandson to see me sharing with those in need.

That story is news here too

and I agree it would probably be good to give it to the poor - but no doublt those who found it have legal rights to it, and of course their search would have cost them too. I guess the reason they do these searches is for the rewards.

I do not begrudge then the spoils, Elly

I just thought it was poignant how the little boy saw things!

Sounds good to me Familyfunandfaith

Too bad we can't all see things though the mind of a child.

I agree, Jeanne

such naive thinking is a reminder of how we should value things.
