Meter Dials Spinning Slower

In an effort to conserve electricity and reduce my monthly electric bill, I have taken a few measures. As light bulbs burn out in my home, I replace them with more costly but more energy-wize ones. I keep my freezer full, since experts say a full freezer is more economical to power. I hang some clothes to dry and never overdry loads in the machine, and I wash both dishes and clothes in loads that are full only.

I've been able to reduce room temperature in the bedroom with use of an electric blanket and in the rest of the house by requesting hubby put T-shirts away until next summer and instead, put on a thicker shirt.

Also, since our daughter moved out, we have one less computer, one less TV, one less stereo, one less fridge door hanging open, one less hair dryer, and way fewer long hot baths and hour drying loads in the dryer. What a savings! Even the meter dials outside the home don't spin as fast.

The new bulbs may be more energy efficient...

but they are potentially dangerous in more ways than one. You can't read well with ones we have and they contain mercury, even if it is in small quantities. The NZ Government is trying to force us to change to the new eco bulbs but I suspect it will have a battle on its hands.

That picture brought memories, Jellen

of the days when I used to read meters!

Great Jellen

You are well and truly doing your bit. At home in Australia we have all the new globes, as I do here in China. If everyone does a little................
