Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been in the news lately. MRSA is a form of a common bacteria that has evolved an ability to survive treatment with antibiotics. This ability to overcome antibiotic treatment is why Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus is often referred to as a superbug.

MRSA is most often found in Hospitals were diseased patients with weakened immune systems are congregated. However in recent years MRSA has sickened and killed students in public school systems across the United States. In fact more people are dieing of MRSA then AIDS in the United States.
