Michigan is considering increasing the dropout age to 18

Michigan’s legislator is considering increasing the dropout age for high school students from 16 to 18. Students have been able to drop out at 16 since the 1800’s in Michigan.

Personally I think it would be wonderful too increase the dropout age too 18. Sixteen your old kids think they know everything some chose to dropout without even realizing the consequences that they will face latter in life. Not to mention the fact that most drop outs end up on some kind of government assistance.

Things have got so more technical...

and employers used school experience as a way of sorting out the wheat from the chaff when hiring new employees back when unemployment was high and jobs scarce.

You guys are right

In the old days, some people had to drop out to go to work and help their families. My great grandmother made my Grandma drop out, and my Grandma loved high school.

Now it's hard to get even a minimum-wage job without finishing high school, and the best thing you can do for your family or yourself is finish.

I think you are right -

Not to be mean, but in the big picture category, those 16 and 17 have somewhat mushy brains.

The longer one stays at school

the greater potential to really learn things. There is so much to know/learn these days that one needs more time to learn before getting out into the great wide world alone.
