Hold on! You think I'm talking about those brave souls who hide behind sunglasses and other articles of disguise in order to make a buck by evaluating a store. But I am not!
Believe it or not, I am once again on the subject of politicians, and more specifically governors and congressmen (both groups in the two-gender context). I will concede that my data is limited, but I've been thinking about what these people feel is important to communicate to their constituents through websites and emails. I have noticed a pattern.
The consistent ingredient in many different accounts is that the politician has managed to secure funding for some worthwhile project. Wow, that is awesome! For so many years I only viewed the funding word 'grant' in the most favorable light. But now I see that even though grants are laundered tax revenue (grants are cleaner), they are still tax dollars.
So when the governor is gleefully announcing grant funds are available for some project, and he is expecting you to be at least as excited, just remember it is your tax dollars he is handing out. Is it a good use of those funds?
Maybe you have been in the situation where a spouse or child comes home from a shopping trip all excited. They have found the perfect whatever, and it was even on sale. You want to share in their excitement, but then you remember that they really did not have the funds for that purchase. Get the picture?
The mystery here is where do these politicians get the idea that money spent is like a victory, something to be celebrated? Is a politician a full time mystery shopper? What about showing a reduction in government spending? Of course the problem in our society is that generally money spent secures votes. Money saved may result in lost votes.
And so the magical mystery shopping tour goes on and on and on ....
