Reflections on Contentment

I read blog on Happines and its relationship to money. I would like to affirm the idea that contentment is in reality a state of mind over which individuals should have at least some measure of control. We should determine that we will not let anyone else dictate the way respond to any situation, no matter how distasteful. Like the Apostle Paul, we should strive to be content in whatever state we find ourselves.

That being said, there are some things that I find it much easier to be content in doing! I enjoy being with my family for a meal, especially if afterwards we can play a game together. I like listening to an acapella choral group or a little child's prayer. I love a pitcher's duel, or an overtime basketball game. I like warm weather and warm smiles. I like to pick up pecans in the fall, and I like writing short, reflective articles about things that bring me joy!

I am sure you have some favorite activities as well, how about sharing them? I would enjoy that too.

Philippians 4:11 "for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content."

That is a good verse

and I agree that it's much easier said than done. I am still working on it and will be until He calls me home. I enjoy time with family, my critters, horses, dogs, cats, warm days but not hot, thunderstorms, scary movies and a good cup of tea or coffee.

Intersting assortment of things, mapikfish

that bring you enjoyment. I am not a fan of scary movies, but I do love rollercoasters and fast rides.

Philippians 4:11 is one of my favorite verses

Difficult to act upon at times but a very worthy goal.

I am working on it too, Jeanne

but it is more often true now than it was 40 years ago.

Live Well, Learn Much, Laugh Often

The challenge comes

on those days when even the things that normally bring us joy, do not. Whatever the reason, we lose our gratitude and appreciation for what we do have and choose to focus on what we do not have.

You are correct that we should not let others dictate our response. Likewise, we are responsible for our own response and should not blame others.

I don't like to let someone else determine how I respond, djbtol

I don't want them in control of me in that way!
