Some things are offensive to me

There are days when we foreigners get a bit angry or confused about life in China. Their culture is so different to ours that we forget we are in an Asian country that has been isolated from the west for many years, and have had to deal with a whole lot of things that our countries have not.

It is the late afternoon of New Years Day...

It is late afternoon of New Years day here in New Zealand. It has been a warm summers day, but getting cool and windy. We have had rain hanging around the hills for a couple of days. We had many of our grandchildren here again during the day and evening.

The Chinese Christmas

I had wondered how my Christmas 2008 would be. Me in China and all my family in Australia. I'd heard too that there would be little recognition of this Christian festival in China - how wrong the information turned out to be.

On Saturday my friends and I had another adventure. Being lost in China is a regular occurrence with us, but we have always managed to find some helpful Chinese people and try and explain our predicament with limited Chinese, a Chinese phrase book and a lot of hand signals.
