This is quite a bizarre story. And I will start from the beginning. Today, midafternoon, sirens started blaring in the grounds of the university. They would stop, then start again. It sounded very much like Air Raid Sirens, and so much out of place here. Everyone seemed to go about their own business as if the deafening siren was not blaring. I asked a few students and no one seemed to know. Or care. Odd, I thought.

I say dual island because the two main islands are still known as the South Island and the North Island. The south is the larger of the two, but the North has about two thirds of the population, with the capital city being Wellington, at the bottom of the North Island.
