Opium is arguably one of the world’s oldest drugs, as the opium poppy is naturally occurring. We still use opium today, heroine is considering to be the most addictive drug on the planet, and morphine is used everyday in hospitals to aid with pain. In fact, when I was in labor with my daughter my doctor gave me morphine to help with the pain!

So you celebrate (or refuse to celebrate) Valentine’s Day on February 14; but February 14 is only one of many “Valentine’s Days” recognized by the Catholic Church. Let’s see there January 7, May 2, July 16, August 31, September 2, October 25, November 1, November 3, November 13, and December 16. Geez!! There are a lot of saints named Valentine, which leads me to believe that if you name your child “Valentine” they’re destined for Sainthood!

All around the world, this evening, people are celebrating the start of a new year. Everyone celebrates in a different way; different cultures call for different things. I’ll be sitting on the sofa, typing away, slightly oblivious to the whole event. Perhaps I’ll get phone calls from all of my friends tomorrow, very late tomorrow, telling me what crazy nights they had.

My husband and I have been on a search for oysters for about a week. I was arranging to buy a bushel from the eel fisherman up the road, but he couldn’t get them ‘til next week. We found out that they carry them at the Farm Fresh about 20 minutes away and we picked up 2 dozen this evening.

Saddam Hussein has been executed; he hanged for his crimes. You may look to the Middle East and think how outdated hanging is. If you do, then it may surprise you to know that in the USA hanging and death by firing squad is still permissible in the states of New Hampshire, Washington, Idaho, Oklahoma, and Utah. While all of these states also offer lethal injection, there have been a few executions by firing squad and hanging since 1976.

If you live in the city, seeing 20 or so trucks and other vehicles parked on the side of the road may make you think that there's a party, funeral or perhaps a family or church gathering going on. Living where I live, I know it's hunting season. The sons, fathers and even some "womenfolk" dress up in their cameo; gather up their guns and whatever else one needs to hunt deer.
