My poor old body is suffering more abuse - not by my hand this time, but the weather. Just two weeks ago I was miserable in the -6 degree cold of downtown Shaoxing, China, and looking forward to returning home to some warmth. I don't like a cold temperature, but I don't want the other extreme either.
The folk here know I come from Australia - the subtropics in fact where it is "beautiful one day, perfect the next" and while our summers are hot and steamy (typical sub tropical weather - it is currently 25 degrees and it is 10 pm), our winters are wonderful.

The frozen zoo is a collection of biological materials from a wide variety of rare and critically endangered species. The biological material is composed of gametes (sperm and oocytes),embryos, serum, tissue samples (cell lines) and other items. It represents a genetic bank vault,an archive or irreplaceable genetic information that can be preserved for perhaps hundreds of years. It is stored in specialised holding tanks filled with liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196 degrees Celsius or -373 degrees Fahrenheit. If a species nears extinction and its genes are lost, some samples can be thawed and by using assisted reporductive techinques, offspring can be produced. The collected gametes in the frozen zoo are also used in the process of artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and invitro-fertilization.
I've noticed on the posts here that it is not Australia that is suffering a drought - the UK, parts of USA, Africa, India, and maybe other places, but the emphasis by scientists and governments is on "Global Warming" - and I think the average person doesn't understand ALL the ramefications of this phenomenon.
