The early morning spider

How scary! I was awake early this morning. Brain working overtime, so decided to get up. I walked into the kitchen and there on the white tiled floor it was.

A big brown scary spider. My heart almost stopped beating. And then the pulse rate increased. Here I am all alone and this big hair monster is standing ready to pounce in the middle of the kitchen.

What can I do? I could call someone - but it is 5 am. No one would be impressed with a silly lady who could not cope with a spider.

I moved towards it and it reared! Ready to jump at me. Aaaaaaah!!!

Oh, the good old fly spray. I picked up a can of fly spray and practiced. Make sure it had a long reach! The cat looked at me in wonderment as I practiced with my "weapon".

Confident, I approached the spider. Can at the ready! Pssssttttt! with the spray! The spider ran but I chased it spraying all the time. Within seconds the deadly poison was working. The spider stopped, rolled and sucked it's legs in so that it was like a big hairy ball. (Well, at least the size of a big marble!)

I waited. A few minutes later with a long handled broom I tried to sweep it - tried to get it to clutch the broom, but it refused.

Then the dustpan and mini broom. I gingerly swept it into the dustpan, and headed for the outdoors. But as I reached the doorway it moved. I shrieked and threw the dustpan out. The spider disappeared. Where was it.

Aaaaah!! It had fallen by my foot. But it was pretty sick and sorry for itself. With the mini broom I swept it further from me.

Phew!!!! Saved.

(I don't like killing them - but if one intrudes into my space I have no choice.)

Was it

an Orb Weaver? If so, none of them are poisonous.

Jeepers!

Eeeek! Eaeek! I scary spider! (Sigh -- Girls!)

it might have killed you!

Yep, I can't deal with spiders either! We had these tarantulas in Texas that would get inside all the time! Scary, scary things and just one reason I'm so glad to be moved from that terrible place! You did the very right thing. Who knows what kind of evil that thing was up to!

Spook

tarantulas won't hurt you. They are pretty much blind. We had scorpions in west Texas.......they would drop from the ceiling. When we moved, we moved one in the pots and pan box unknown to us.
