The New and the Old

Shanghai is fascinating. With a population of close to 21 million people, it is a city which has so much of its old history, its old buildings with narrow alleyways, and across the River Huangpu is the new part of the city, with its towering modern buildings, is flashy architecture, it's massive neon signs.

The old part has neon signs too - and at night it is an amazing light show.

There is an area called Old Shanghai - part of the popular tourist route with hundreds of markets and back alleys for great bargains, food shops, souvenirs by the thousands, and people by the millions.

From the top of one of the old buildings you can see Pudong - the new buildings. Quite a contrast.

When I went to Shanghai, Elly

I was blown away by the view as you make the bend on the freeway into the district where the old is on one side of the river and the new on the other. I was amazed at the proximity and the diversity!

The fog?

On this day they may have been rain clouds - mixed with a large handful of pollution which is here nearly all the time. Those buildings are often hidden in cloud/pollution/fog. Call it what you like. So many of my Shanghai and local photos are this way. When you see the number of factories spewing out their stuff, you'll understand why Beijing and other cities have this massive problem.

I think Photrade is cool - but I have trouble accessing it from time to time. One of the many mysteries of China.

Look at the ads, Elly

Some great ads come popping up on your China posts. Wonder how they do? Very nice photo and interesting bit of info.
