The new vacuum cleaner.

We have been using a tired old vacuum cleaner. I hate housework but I hate even more that some of my "white goods" are ageing and not functioning so well. Our old top brand cleaner was "bequeathed" to us from my husband's father's estate. It could be as old as 30 years old. It wasn't up to speed any more. Should we try and revamp it or get a new one?

I opted for the second option. And so it was that we bought an upright Bissell.

As it turns out there was a special for a steam mop too - so we ended up with both.

The Bissell vacuum cleaner is a marvel of technology. It is upright, but I can unclick the main working part and have a barrell cleaner which will be useful. It has all it's tools cleverly attached - so it is all there right at my fingertips so to speak.

When we got it home, uppacked it, and connected a few things we sucked up the dust and dog hair on the rug in the loungeroom. How embarrassing! It was as if another dog had appeared in the cylinder where all waste was collected. So much dust and dog hair! Thankfully it convinced MM that I was right! Our investment was necessary!

No more bags to empty - and cleaning out the plastic waste cylinder is easy. A bit messy, but when we have got on top of our dust and dog hair problem it will be filling less often.

Interestingly in China we see few carpets. I'm sure in luxury houses they are there. In our apartments we'd love a vacuum cleaner, but for the short time we are there it is not high on the list of investments. But perhaps if they were used more we could suck up the dust pollution that infliltrates every nook and cranny. But it would only be recycled back into the atmosphere anyway!

Anyway for the moment - until I return to China in a few weeks time - I can enjoy my Bissell!!!

I've noticed that they...

have gone for bagless vacuum cleaners now. Just have to remember to empty and clean out regularly.

Yes, Hutts

and it is a saving. They are often not cheap to buy those bags. I have a few left too!
