The Obama Gamble

People are wondering about Nov. 4 in the U.S. - election day. Obama's popularity is on a steady decline, especially as we think about the potential of hard times. This quote from Rush Limbaugh nicely expresses the gamble that Obama is:

"Barack Obama is a high risk loan. He has nothing but a nice smile and a firm handshake as evidence he can deliver on what he promises. He has no history of accomplishment. I'd like a little more collateral on a presidential candidate than just having Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright and Tony Rezko as cosigners on his White House loan application."

The democrat controlled Freddie and Fanny of yesterday would have underwritten such a high risk loan, but these are new times.

One thing Americans cannot be accused of is

being uninformed about our upcoming election. We would have to move to the moon to avoid being bombarded with election news 24 hours a day, and, even there, politicians would find a way to keep us informed. I will be s-o-o-o glad when November 4 is over, but by then, we will probably start hearing about the 2012 elections and Hillary Clinton's new run for president.

Again ...

interesting and Obama will win. Why? Kiwis were polled on who they would vote for if they were eligible - 68% said they would vote for Obama. So there you go,mate!

Why, Hutt?

If 68% of people in your country would vote for Barak Obama, I would be interested in knowing why. So far, I haven't seen much from him that would encourage anyone to cast a vote for him--and even less since he chose Joe Biden, who seems to be everything Obama claims he is against, for his running mate.

Polls today

May not be polls tomorrow. Voters can flip-flop right up to day of voting. It also depends where you take your poll. If you were to take a poll of BlogEvolve, you'd find a lot more McCain support than you would on Blogger Party. So to say most bloggers prefer Obama, would not necessarily be true.

If you took a poll of most folks I know, you'd be hard up to find an Obama supporter. Why are the polls not reflecting my particular segment of America? I say polls promote what they want to promote. If you take a poll and don't like the outcome; just take another one. Poll the right people until you get what you want the poll to indicate. That's the problem with poll predictions.

When it comes down to getting my vote, as an American I will vote for safety of my country before I vote social or political change. I will vote for protection of Christian values and Isreal before I vote gender or race or age.

Why not poll me? No polster has polled me about my vote. I think that holds true for lots of voters -- who may really hold different views than those who stepped up to be in the polls. Polls don't mean actual votes and a lot can be different on election day.

Only 14% supported McCain...

that is really a poll on the impact made on people six thousand miles away. Polls are popular because we are going through a classic 'left v right' election campaign.

So the reason for the result of this poll is IMPACT!!

Are kiwis more knowledgeable about American politics than Americans themselves?

First -

I'll give the standard comeback - polls are polls, which ones are correct?

Also, there is plenty of global interest and comment regarding U.S. elections (except from the President of Georgia). Unfortunately these views follow years and years of America-bashing by the democrats. This primarily existed in two forms (I think): Bush hatred in general (because Al Gore lost) and the war in Iraq. By the way, when it comes to President Bush's actual negatives, you will be hard-pressed to divide responsibility between President Bush and 535 elected members of Congress.

Now kiwis are certainly free to prefer Obama, but let us not forget that they will not have to live with the consequences of Obama Hussein.

Finally, it might be presumptious to assume that there is a correlation between being knowledgeable and choosing Obama.

Interesting, djbtol

I guess there is not long to wait to learn of the outcome of the US election.

You must be

sick of hearing about the US election, but maybe not as much as we are. If this election was not so important for the future of the U.S., I would have turned away long ago.
