It’s only the middle of November, and I have my Christmas shopping done. It’s not that I have an early holiday spirit. It’s more like -- I hate crowds and the whole commercialism of Christmas. But what is a shame, is that I can’t enjoy the real Christmas because I’m too busy avoiding the commercial one. If my shopping is done by mid-November, I avoid the Christmas advertising, the crowds, and the full parking lots. I even have the candy for the stockings put up on a shelf. Tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas songs are already blaring on the radio.
About the only thing left to ring in Christmas for me is making Christmas cookies. No, wait! There is one more thing, the candlelight service. The candlelight service shares the real meaning of Christmas -- a baby, the son of God, born of a virgin to redeem mankind, born to rule and reign. One bright spot in a secular commercial Christmas season can be found on the evening of December 24th in many churches throughout the world.
If you are facing a busy Christmas season, and you wonder if you will find the real meaning to Christmas before the holiday is over, I encourage you to attend a Christmas Eve candlelight service. There, you will hear about the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Christ the savior.
