Yesterday was a weird day. While we were picking flowers (we are in business with our daughter and son-in-law) with a flower growing business, our daughter came up to say that both children were sick. One is waiting for a tonsilectomy - being in constant pain/high temperature with a throat infection. It seems that both sisters were suffering from the condition yesterday. Would I "babysit" later in the day? Sure.

Then the power went. We didn't know what had happened. We phoned neighbours to see if it was confined to our property or wheter others were involved. But no one was home. I phoned the number to get information about power outages, and was told there was no outage in our area. Mmmm. There appeared to be nothing amiss in the power box. I phoned again. Each time I got the same computerised message. "There is no outage in your area. Phone back later."

So I tried another number and got a human - who was going to send an "emergency team" to investigate. The power came on about half an hour later, and the team were never seen, and the neighbours did lose power. Life goes on.

So when I was looking after the girls in the afternoon, one thrust this small beeping thing into my hand - with the news that "she's dead." The Tamagotchi person was dead. Wouldn't eat apparently. A few minutes later there was more beeping and I was given the small toy and asked to name the person. I tried to get "Elly" to come up - but somehow I'd press the wrong button, or press it too many times. In the end it was Ellg - seems there is a time limit to naming the next "child."

The small screen made little sense to me. Then there was excitement. Ellg did a poo. Beep, beep. Little miss pressed the buttons and it beeped again. Was it more poo?

Oh, too much for me. "Your mother's home. Must go."

Who invented such toys that have the children hooked for hours on end? Is there any point to the this toy? How long will Ellg live?

Maybe someone can tell me. It is all too much for me.
