The Week Before Camp!

I'm going with a group from our congregation to a camp next week. There will be kids from maybe a dozen congregations gather in the hill country outside of San Antonio. There will be around 300 teenagers and about 70 staff members. This will be my 29th consecutive summer at that camp. I will be teaching 10th-graders, which is my favorite age group to teach. I know some people will think it's strange, but I love teenagers and I love camp.

But I hate the week before camp. Party had 15 or 20 calls this morning about details that I have to get ready. Travel arrangements, teaching assignments, T-shirt sizes, and more. And I know that the calls will only increase through the week as we get closer to the time of departure. I'll be glad when we actually get on the road on Sunday morning early.

That is great -

Hope you have a wonderful week at camp. I know you are impacting their lives for the good.

I still teach junior high Bible class, Jeanne

every Wednesday night. As you say, they are open and honest, and if they know they are loved, they will rebound quickly if they are upset at you.

Good for you

and what a greata responsibility with so many young people in camp. In Australia we do not do the summer camp thing - but we hear about the camps on TV etc.

The camp I attend, Elly

is not like most of those I have seen in the movies!

We have no concept of the US summer camp

other than what we see.We do have some smaller camps during our holidays. Our school students go on "camps" for up to a week at a time I guess to experience country life or similar, and there are some horse riding camps and other similar activities all year round.

Have a great time, Familyfunandfaith.

I used to teach junior high kids in public school and in a Bible Club. People thought I was insane when I said I loved working with kids that age. They were so open to learning and I liked their honest comments, even when they hurt or seemed inappropriate.
