Thoughts on writing blogs.

Am I right that some bloggers here and elsewhere write blindly without consideration of the things that we have been instructed to do as bloggers.

On BE we have a simple system, without the need for thinking about writing abstracts, adding tags, meta tags. It is easy to put in bold, italics, and links - no need for knowledge of html code here.

Other sites offer more features to help get the blogs out into the blogosphere more readily. And you need some knowledge of html code or BBC code to do the things that we can so easily do here at BE.

But do we do it?

Go back to your last post? What was your main key word. Did you use this key word two or three times in your post. Did you bold it? Did you put the key word in the "tags" section? Check for spelling errors. Did you put your user name in the "tags" section? Did you use other key in the "tags" section?

Did you put in a link? It could be a link to a site (Wikipedia) or some other site with additional information, or it could be just a link to another of your blogs.

Did you preview or review your post? Did you confirm that the link was working?

Done all that?

Did you put additional code in for further Adsense?

Did you promote it? Why not compile a list of friends or family that show an interest in your blogging career. Send them a message with a link to your new blog. Do you know how to do that? Do you know how to find the link that will open directly into the post you want them to read?

Have you joined any of the Blog Directories? Technorati? Do you need to update? Perhaps you can do that weekly - but do it.

Elly, I have listed my BE blog with technorati

and put my username in the tag field most of the time. I have tried to only use tags that are also keywords in the posts.

But I have not done much boldening of keywords or linking to other sites, mine or others. I have blogs on which I am making money so I try to optimize them in order to get more and more lucrative offers.

Interesting that since I've made the changes, Adsense

revenue has increased. I wonder if that is the difference.

You can link to your other blogs

from here or wherever. Only do one or two links. It does help to use a keyword several times, and bold them
a couple of times too. You can look for high paying keywords, especially words that are associated with the post you are writing. As an example, (and I haven't checked this - I'm just using it as an example) if you were writing about television - would using the abbreviation TV in your post work too? One of those words would possibly rate higher than another.)

not sure if it even works yet

I'm so new to blogging and adsense that I don't even know if it's working at all. I hope I set it up correctly; we'll have to see. But I certainly have come across enough tidbits to help me out once I have a firmer grasp of things.

Hi Ponch

How do I go about getting more...

Adsense here? I couldn't understand the technical stuff at BF.

How do I get 'my' Adsense to my other sites such as Blogster.com and Blog.co.uk which already have Adsense advertising?

I don't know how, Hutts,

as I do not know those sites. I certainly have Adsense on my blogger.com sites, and they work well for me.

What do you understand by "Community blogging", Jellen

Whilst this is a community - my understanding was that folk here were interesting in making money. You can still have a theme/niche witha community blogging site, and still do the things that create more interest with search engines etc.

Community blogs are those like...

BE,BF,WU,Senserely Yours, etc which are Adsensed and open to membership - as against blogs we set up ourselves. I have one that has only attracted one other member.

Sure, Hutts, I understand that,

I was not sure what Jellen meant by her comment. I think she was suggesting that because BE is a "community blog" there is no need to have a niche or do some of the things that create more interest from search engines. I know that say a Blogger blog might be very specific on a topic, and on BE you can write on a wider range of topics. I think our own ADmin here suggested in his material that we were best off writing about similar topics or niche here, to create more regular readership. (Does this all make sense?) My point is that you can still have a niche on community blogs to some degree.

You can and

Riding Fool did it well on BlogFeast, but when it came to really making money, she took her niche elsewhere. She is one to ask more about that, I would say.

Sadly, that is what many of us do....

whilst we all want to earn money blogging, few do what we are told is necessary to make a difference.

All good points, Elly

And that is how to grow a blog.

Elly's picture

Obviously there is more

but I keep reading about the bolding of keywords, one or two links. It is all pretty easy to do here.

Fine tuning the ads

with adsblacklist or by some means of our Admin would be of much greater value, I believe.

Elly's picture

I think that one thing is that

if we write on a theme - the ads on our entries will be more useful. Here we seem to write whatever comes into our heads - and there is no theme.

Community blogging

is our theme. It sets us apart from the others.
