Thumping Down Pinecones

The past weekend, I drove to my uncle's house to feed his cats while he was away. Since the home used to be my parent's home while they were alive, the place has a certain appeal to me. I especially love the woods, but there was a strange sound coming from the trees south of the deck. I kept hearing what I thought were noisy deer. Boy were they noisy! Thump and thump again.

With camera in hand I snuck -- or is it sneaked -- around the corner of the house, hoping to get a wonderous view of wild creatures. Thump again and again. Pinecones hitting the pumphouse. No deer -- only one very active squirrel collecting food for winter. And even with me present, he kept on thumping down pinecones.

Couldn't get a good shot of the squirrel, but here is what the little guy was after.
