Too Lost?

Will you be on the other side or will you

Am I too lost to be saved?

"Tourniquet" by Evanescence, verse 2

Though this is easily the first song I wanted to talk about by Evanescence, it's taken me awhile to be able to do it. I can't think about the question, "Am I too lost to be saved?" without remembering something my new RUF minister used to say before he started the night.

It took me a time or two of hearing him speak before I appreciated his repetitive technique. I was even, to my surprise, starting to like it. "What do we believe at RUF? What do we believe here? We believe that you are never, you are never so bad that God cannot save you from your sin; and you are never so good, never so good that you do not stand in need of His grace."

Of course, I only heard him say it 6 times or so before his accident, so that's a paraphrase that I hope catches what he meant. Christ meant what He said in John 10:27-28: "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand" (ASV, emphasis added).

Sometimes, while singing flatly along to "Tourniquet," I add a line near the end.

"Am I too lost to be saved?
"No one's too lost!"
