Watching Rocket Launch on TV

Yes, folks after more phone calls to the office, the TV came back. Still I think with it's problem which all along I thought was in the signal. But, at least I can watch movies when I work out how to get the DVD player connected and try and fathom out all the Chinese instructions. (Chinese student will be helpful!)

I went to a Faculty dinner last night, so didn't get back until late and turned on to realise I could watch the launch of the Shenzhou VII from Gansu province. Way out in the deserts of China.

The Rocket carrier was named Long March - those who study Chinese history will understand that.

China is keen to be seen as a superpower and feels that by having their own space station, their own people walking in space and so forth will make the world understand that China is "going places".

I will be interested to learn today how many of our students sat up to watch the launch. The Chinese are passionately patriotic to China. If I say something good about China in the classroom, they all cheer. It is as nothing else matters but China. When the Chinese people wear and "I love China" T-shirt, they really mean it.

Today I will get a cheer as I state "Well done China, for successful launch last night."
