What is your Country’s national sport?

Every country has at least two things in common. Each country has a national flag and a national sport. In the United Sates the national sport is Baseball even though American Football is more popular. In Canada Lacrosse is the national sport even though Ice Hockey is more popular.

Which leads me to a question what is your countries national sport?

Kiwis are rugby mad and have been the best...

at the game for over a century - occasionally Australia and South Africa ae competitive at the game. Ironically the Aussies have become tops at a game introduced to them by the Kiwis - rugby league.

Our major summer sport is cricket - but we play second and third fiddle to the Aussies( their national game) and others at test level, but compete well at the one day game.

We are, however, World Champions at men's Softball - but this is a minor sport.

Aussie Rules is played here a little, but this is an Australian sport, much like Baseball and American Footall is in North Ameica.

We play soccer and basketball, but are world minnows, although we finished fourth at the BB World Champs four years ago.

We have a proud record in athletics, especially middle distance, but not for many years since the africans have dominated that sport. No we can't swim like Aussies and Americans but have our moments. We can row boats and ride bikes at world class level. Over all,not bad for a country with four million people.

Aussies are totally sports mad

and probably would call cricket our national sport, but they are passionate football supporters - soccer, rugby league, rugby union, and of course Aussie Rules football which is played in all states of Australia. Rugby is not as popular. We are mad tennis players and supporters, and like hockey, swimming - really all sports, especially when Australia has some top teams.

soccer vs. football in the name game

Talk about upset the apple cart. In the US, soccer is what everyone else refers to as football. Is there a sport like american football that is known by another name?
