Where is all the water?

wivenhoe dam

Yesterday we visited Mount Glorious - just west of Brisbane. There is a lookout there - with a view over Lake Wivenhoe which is not only the flood mitigation program to prevent massive flooding in the city of Brisbane, but is also one of the major water supplies of Brisbane.

As many readers would know we are suffering here from lack of water - no rain, and drought conditions, and what would normally be a wonderful water view is no little more than a few dreary ponds.

I think it is less than 30% of it's capacity. Really a concern. I stood with other visitors to the lookout and few people spoke. A few heads were shaking. It is really hard to believe. Beautiful view even so - just would be more heartening to see it filled with water.

In UK in drought conditions, hosepipe bans are imposed but it

used to annoy me intensely that ordinary householders could be prosecuted for watering their vegetables with a hosepipe but golf clubs would have sprinklers going for hours.

Elly drought has hit the United States

The midwest United States is also in a drought. The Great Lakes are at the lowest levels in years.

Yes, Toad, and I think

there are many areas around the world affected byt climate change/drought. I know Africa is in a bad way too - as well as the myriad of other issues they have to deal with.

I think it is very concerning that our weather patterns have changed so much. Some areas though are getting more rain than they can deal with.

The drought is still so real

to you. I was just commenting to someone today about the devestation drought has brought to the Land Down Under...even about the loss of your bees.

Yes, I agree with you. Where is the water?

It's affecting so much

our farmers are in dire straits - theres a suggestion that the government should pay them to give up their farms as there is not enough water to feed animals or grow crops, and even in the city it is affecting businesses that require water - house washers, market gardens, plant nurseries, lawn mowing/landscape businesses - it is far more wide reaching than that. Anyone who uses water for their business is having to make changes.
