Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin of the penis. It is often performed in healthy boys for cultural or religious reasons. In the U.S., circumcision of a newborn boy is usually done before he leaves the hospital. Jewish boys, however, are circumcised when they are 8 days old.

The merits of circumcision are currently under debate. There is NOT a compelling medical rationale for the procedure in healthy boys. However, some boys have medical conditions where circumcision may be needed.

Many physicians, rather than routinely recommending circumcision for healthy boys, allow the parents to make the decision after presenting them with the pros and cons.

I recently had a son born to me and it came time to do the procedure except, I was not sure why I was doing this to him. My wife did not know why either, it was the day of the surgery and I still had no idea why.

I did some research quickly and found out that until the Great Cereal Mogul Kellogg came along most of Europe, Australia and America had stopped having this procedure done almost altogether. Mr. Kellogg decided to promote it, and was very good at it. Although I think he did great things in the food industry and to help the sick, I cannot be sure his motives.

Was Jesus circumcised?

Was Einstein?

Is it American?

I ask because I think there is a interesting correlation between the increase of circumcision in the US and increasingly overt sexual attitudes and behaviors of the general public and the promotion of sex as a product.

Immorality has swelled as well.

Is this procedure making us more sexually distracted and oriented? If I had a foreskin would I be as concerned about sex as I have been?

It makes sense for a capitalist country to promote a procedure that may directly effect the sale of just about everything from condoms, to pornography, perfume, makeup, clothing, jewelry, music, etc. by billions of dollars.

Is this what is happening? Have I been altered in order to make me a better consumer for today's market?
