Will she be the last Governor General of Australia?

This week Ms Quentin Bryce was sworn in as the Governor General of Australia. This largely symbolic position may well be demolished if Australia becomes a republic, and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promised prior to the election in 2007, that he would initiate a referendum in the hope that they majority of Australians will be in favour of the referendum.

Ms Bryce has been the Governor of Queensland, and has endeared herself to Queenslanders for her successful representation of the Queen and of the state of Queensland.

Ms Bryce is the first woman to hold this position, and it is rather interesting that she may be the last.

She is a Queenslander and completed her schooling at Somerville House in Brisbane, a college that has provided Australia with many successful women.
